Will I become our photographer for life?
I’ve known Daphne and her boy since he was born nearly 8 years ago.
Over those EIGHT YEARS Daphne has taken many unflattering photos of me, whilst I have been trying my hardest to take wonderful photos of her family.
Whether I have been face down in the leaves and the mud in the woods, or climbing log piles or rescuing her son rescuing when he falls down a slope and even when I bend over to get a lens from my kit bag, Daphne is always there, with her phone out, to capture these absolute treasures…
I first photographed her son when he was days old. They’d had a fairly unpleasant experience with another photographer and were nervous of booking me.
I remember speaking at length with Daphne, trying to reassure her as a new mum, that the shoot will be fun and her newborn son would be safe.
We finished the shoot with a shot of her son held aloft above his dad’s head, naked. He did a massive wee and yes, I took a picture of it.
The way we laughed together and cleaned up the wee, our friendship was firmed. We have been friends ever since.
I have been incredibly lucky to photograph Daphne’s son throughout his life and to watch him grow. To date, he hasn’t decided to wee over everything again. But there’s still time..
I have tried many times to tell Daphne how much I enjoy her friendship and how cherished she is as a customer. I never quite manage to find the words. I really hope she knows - I think she does, because whenever I try to tell her she diverts and calls me a K**b.
This is for you, Daph. A tribute to you, in the way of a blog. I thank you so very much for being my customer - and more importantly; my friend.
**I know you’re gonna kill me for posting those…
